Meta认为元宇宙中的交易问题一直悬而未决，现在市面上没有任何一种钱包是元宇宙世界中的通用钱包，即使有，也缺乏证明所有权的功能。Meta Pay的到来，将会填补这个空缺，作为 “元宇宙经济” 坚实的基层。
这个钱包被称为 Meta Pay，是目前Facebook Pay 的2.0版本，延续并支持Facebook Pay目前的所有功能，但将纳入数字身份和所有权证明的相关功能。
扎克伯格表示，在理想情况下，元宇宙是一个共享的世界，在这里购买的所有东西都应该可在另一个平台上可用，并保持相同的功能和特征。因此，Meta Pay的首要任务，为将数字商品购买与单一数字身份联系起来。他认为，这种互操作性将为人们提供更好的元宇宙体验，并为创作者提供更大的创作空间 — — 用户能够越轻松地使用虚拟产品，虚拟产品的重要性就更大。
