上周六，推特的前联合创始人Jack Dorsey宣布了打造Web 5以对抗Web 3.0。该构思将会由Jack Dorsey旗下的一家子公司研发。在他们的构想中，Web 5是一个能够自主控制数据和身份的去中心化网络。 而世界首富马斯克在知悉后表示将大力支持Web 5的开发。
为什么他们不看好Web 3.0？马斯克可以说是社交媒体上最著名的质疑Web 3.0构建的名人，在他看来，目前展示出来的 Web 3.0 “不是真实的，更像是一种营销术语”，而Jack Dorsey也赞同。而导致他们批评的原因，便是Web 3.0中最大的亮点 — — “去中心化”。
对于这些质疑Web 3.0的人而言，他们认为，现阶段Web 3.0的理想化构思和现实发展相悖，最重要的是，与去中心化的本质相悖。Jack Dorsey认为Web 3.0的去中心化不过仅仅是将“中心”隐藏，用户不曾拥有真正属于自己的财产。“中心”仅从现今明面上的各种机构平台转换成背后的风投公司和开发者而已，总有一天，所谓的Web 3.0终将会变成这些投资人狩猎用户的猎场，和现在的Web 2.0并没有本质上的不同。
因此，Jack Dorsey宣布推出 Web 5，一个声称能在比特币网络上去身份化和去代币支付的特征。同时也声称将能解决数字隐私安全问题，确保用户将拥有这些数据的所有权，第三方不能直接介入。
在Jack Dorsey的构思中，Web 5的应用是这样的：小美持有一个数字钱包，可以安全地管理她的身份数据、其他数据以及外部应用程序和连接的授权。通过这个数字钱包，小美可以随意登录任意一个去中心化的社交媒体应用程序中。然而，由于小美已经的钱包已经拥有了她的去中心化身份，因此她不需要创建一个独立的个人资料，可以直接通过该钱包中的资料创建账号，一站式管理和存粹所有的个资。在Web 5生活中，小美就是一个带着无第三方干预的个人社交身份四处冒险的用户。
马斯克表示，他非常期待Web 5的开发，并指出将会在未来打造Web 69，以狗狗币为基础的新网络时代。
